Although retired now, Mr. Bassett has spent the last 40 years working for the New York State (NYS) Department of Environmental Conservation, the NYS Assembly Minority Leader's Office, and United Press International in public affairs.
Ms. Beljan is an award-winning golf course architect. She previously worked with Fazio Golf Course Designers, Inc., and was the second woman elected to the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
Mr. Ceplo is the superintendent at Rockland Country Club in Sparkill, NY where he has spent most of his career. He guided his course through certification in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf in 2000, and then expanded his involvement by becoming a member of the Audubon Steward Network. In 2013, Mr. Ceplo received the GCSAA President's Award for Environmental Stewardship. His other honors include the MGA's 2012 Arthur P. Weber Environmental Leader in Golf Award and the Global Sports Alliance's 2011 New York Environmental Stewardship Award.
Mr. Hiers has been in the golf business since 1969 and employed as a golf course superintendent since 1976. Hiers is currently the Director of Agronomy at The Old Collier Golf Club and Senior Agronomist and Vice President for Turf Dynamics, LLC. His accomplishments include assisting Collier's Reserve Country Club to become the first certified Audubon International Signature Sanctuary. In 2000 Tim joined The Old Collier Golf Club and led the effort to achieve the designation of first Audubon International Gold Signature Sanctuary. Tim has also served as President of the Florida Golf Course Superintendents Association and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Florida Turfgrass Association.
A former Boston advertising and marketing executive, Mr. Keer is the Founder and President of The Keer Group. Mr. Keer has spent most of his career working in marketing and sales within the recreational fishing and hunting industries. In addition, he is an award-winning freelance writer and author.
Mr. Jaxon is President of JJ Jaxon Co., Inc., a highly respected producer and distributor of commemorative artwork and sculptures. Mr. Jaxon was also a five-term mayor of Eufaula, Alabama, which became the nation's first Audubon International Certified Sustainable Community under his leadership.
Mr. Moriarty spent nearly 40 years with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the last eight years of which were spent as the Regional Director of the FWS' Northeast Region. After retiring in 2011, Mr. Moriarty became active with the Friends of Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge, joining the group's Science and Stewardship Committee. In this volunteer capacity, he is helping to advance the goals of the refuge while facilitating collaboration among government agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and communities throughout the entire Connecticut River Basin.
Patricia J. Vittum, Ph.D.
Dr. Vittum is an educator and expert in turf entomology. She has served as a professor on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, for over 20 years. Dr. Vittum is the senior author of "Turfgrass Insects of the United States and Canada", Second Edition, widely regarded as the bible of turf entomology. Her research interests involve the biology and management of several turfgrass insects, including white grubs and annual bluegrass weevils, and optimizing the effectiveness of biological control alternatives.
