New York Operations
The
Audubon Society of New York State, Inc. (ASNY) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
environmental education organization. First established in 1897 by Theodore
Roosevelt, Frank Chapman, John Burroughs, and others, ASNY was one of the
original independent state Audubon societies. This early group ceased meeting
in the mid-1930s. In 1987, ASNY was reestablished, and, in keeping with its
heritage, continues to be an independent Audubon society like a handful of
others throughout the United States, not affiliated with
any other local, state, or national Audubon society.
As
its programs developed and expanded to other states and countries, we began
“doing business as” Audubon International, to reflect their broader geographical
scope. Within New York State, we continue to carry out activities through Audubon
International's New York Operations department, focusing on realizing our vision and mission in
the state.
